Busan weekend: markets, milmyeon and the beach ★ 4.6

First-time visitor, two days2 days

A first weekend built on the old downtown's markets and the Haeundae shoreline: hoe at Jagalchi, seed hotteok on BIFF Square, eel by the beach and the Mipo pojangmacha stalls after dark.

  1. Day 1: Saturday: Nampo markets from breakfast to fireworks

    Morning
    Breakfast at Sinchang Toast from 07:00, then walk Gukje Market as the shutters open and graze the food alley's bibim dangmyeon.
    Afternoon
    Milmyeon lunch at Halmae Gaya Milmyeon on Gwangbok-ro, ssiat hotteok from the BIFF Square stalls, then browse Bupyeong Kkangtong Market before the night carts set up.
    Evening
    Pick a fish downstairs at Jagalchi Market and eat it as hoe upstairs; finish with the night market carts back at Kkangtong from 19:30.

  2. Day 2: Sunday: Haeundae market lane to the Mipo pojangmacha stalls

    Morning
    Detour north for coffee and pastries at Momos Coffee Oncheonjang, or go straight for the Haeundae Traditional Market lane and Sangguk Ine's tteokbokki.
    Afternoon
    Hitsumabushi at Haemok two streets off the sand, then walk it off along the beach to Dalmaji Hill.
    Evening
    Shellfish and soju at the Haeundae Pojangmacha Village stalls in the Mipo Sealand building below Dalmaji Hill; The Booze afterwards if the night wants a whisky; its basement bar pours daily from 20:00.

Busan like a regular: gukbap, Jeonpo and Gwangalli ★ 4.5

Second visit or food-first traveller, two days2 days

Skip the postcards: a Bib Gourmand gukbap crawl, Jeonpo's cafe-and-wine alleys, and Gwangalli's raw-fish town under the bridge lights.

  1. Day 1: Saturday: Jeonpo on foot, from flat whites to natural wine

    Morning
    Brunch at Or Whatever in Jeonpo, then coffee-hop the cafe street: FM Coffee House for the daily hand drip, Vintage 38 to sit long.
    Afternoon
    Counter lunch at Cor Pasta Bar, then browse the tool-alley shops before an early glass at PlusPlusMinus when doors open at four.
    Evening
    Skewer course at Yakitori Onjung, records and a nightcap at Pale Blue Dot until late.

  2. Day 2: Sunday: Gwangalli's soup, sand and raw-fish town

    Morning
    Coffee first at Werk Roasters by Gwangan Station, then a bowl at Anmok when its doors open at 11:00, the Bib Gourmand dwaeji gukbap of Namcheon.
    Afternoon
    Walk Gwangalli Beach to Millak Raw Fish Town and take a hoe box to the beach wall; naengmyeon at 100.1 Pyeongnaeng if you want noodles instead.
    Evening
    Sunset drinks on Tintagel's rooftop, then whisky at Henry 17 in the Millak alleys.
