Scottsdale eats outdoors for half the year. From October to May the patios fill along Craftsman Court, Fifth Avenue and the Scottsdale Waterfront, and the Old Town farmers market sets up on Saturday mornings by City Hall. The food underneath is Sonoran: carne asada, machaca, flour tortillas, cheese crisps and bacon-wrapped Sonoran hot dogs, with Los Olivos cooking it in Old Town since 1947. Hohokam canals and Akimel O'odham farms shaped this valley long before Winfield Scott bought his 640 acres in 1888, and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community still borders the city. The modern chef era starts at FnB, where Charleen Badman cooks vegetables from Arizona farms beside an Arizona-only wine list; she won the James Beard Best Chef: Southwest award in 2019, and the first MICHELIN Guide Southwest gave FnB a Bib Gourmand in 2026. Old Town's tasting rooms pour wine made in Willcox and Cochise County, brunch is a weekend sport, and the late crowd moves to the bars around Saddlebag Trail.
