Spring

Valencia oranges
Valencia oranges ripen from March into July and grapefruit hangs on until June, long after navels fade, so juice and citrus desserts stay local well into the warm months.

April brings the spring Uncorked: Arizona Wine Festival at Salt River Fields, The Original Taste at the Civic Center and the Arizona Arte Agave Tequila and Mezcal Festival at The Clayton House.
Shorter market hours
The Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market trims its Saturday hours to 08:00 to 12:00 in May and 07:00 to 10:00 in June, so shop early before the season ends.

Summer

Mesquite pods
Mesquite pods ripen in early June, the month the Tohono O'odham calendar names the Mesquite Bean Harvest Moon, and desert peoples ground them into a sweet flour for centuries.
Saguaro fruit
Saguaro fruit is ripe by mid-June and the O'odham and Piipaash harvest it for one to four weeks, before the first monsoon storms spoil it; the harvest marks the O'odham new year.
Prickly pear fruit
The hard red prickly pear fruits ripen in July and August across the Sonoran Desert and become the syrup behind prickly pear margaritas; Goldwater Brewing pours a cactus-fruit beer, Desert Rose.
Monsoon and the market pause
Arizona defines monsoon season as June 15 to September 30, and the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market closes from July through September, so summer eating moves to restaurants and shops.

Autumn

Hatch green chile
Hatch green chile peaks in August and September, and Jalapeno Inferno runs a Hatch Chile Harvest menu while it lasts; Copper State Barbecue smokes a Hatch green chile sausage.
Farmers market season returns
The Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market reopens in October in the City Hall lot, with more than 100 growers and food makers on Saturday mornings, and runs through the cool months.
October and November events
October fills Salt River Fields with the Arizona Taco Festival, Sip, Savor, Shop and the fall Uncorked wine festival, and the Scottsdale Italian Festival takes over Old Town in November.

Winter

Navel oranges and grapefruit
Navel oranges ripen from late November to February and grapefruit from December to June, so winter is when Valley backyard citrus and market juice stands are at their best.
Mandarins and Meyer lemons
Tangerines ripen from November to January and Meyer lemons from November to March, so the fruit that glazes pastries and flavors cocktails in Old Town comes from the same season.
January and February festivals
A Taste of AZ Food and Drink Festival fills Salt River Fields on a late-January Saturday, and the Arizona Strong Beer Festival follows there in February with more than 500 beers.
