Oakland's bakeries spread across Temescal, Uptown and the lake neighborhoods, mixing old-line shops with a newer wave of pastry-driven counters. Bake Sum on Grand Avenue near Lake Merritt works an Asian-influenced pastry program, while La Farine on College Avenue in Rockridge and Grand Bakery in the Dimond carry the more traditional neighborhood-bakery role. Temescal has become a particular hub, with Poppy Bagels, Mariposa Baking Company and Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen all along or just off Telegraph Avenue, and Sweet Bar Bakery and Donut Savant covering Uptown.
