Braga keeps a deeper conventual sweet tradition than almost any city in the Minho, and its bakeries are where that history is still sold over the counter. Frigideiras do Cantinho on Largo de São João do Souto has traded since 1796, building its name on the frigideira, a fried pastry pocket of egg custard. Doçaria São Vicente, founded in 1829, and Tíbias de Braga near the Arco da Porta Nova keep the older conventual sweets alive, while Manteigaria on Avenida da Liberdade brings the through-the-day pastel de nata factory model to the city.
