The open square outside Hakaniemi hall hosts a daytime produce market, busiest in berry season when strawberries, blueberries and chanterelles fill it.
Tip: Pair the outdoor square with the indoor hall next door. Summer berry season is the time to come for chanterelles and strawberries.
Hakaniemi Market Hall reopened in 2023 after a full renovation; the two-floor Kallio-waterfront hall is the everyday local market, lunch counters above.
Tip: Less touristed than the harbour hall and more of a working market. The upstairs counters are the value lunch play.
The century-old Hietalahti Market Hall on the western waterfront is now a restaurant and cafe hall, counters cooking from Vietnamese to tapas at night.
Tip: Unlike the other halls it stays open for dinner, latest on Friday and Saturday. A flea market runs on the square outside in summer.
