What is in season in Detroit. and what to order when the market changes.
Spring
- Michigan maple syrup: Michigan maple sap runs late February through April; the state is a top US producer. Sap from Sanilac and Tuscola counties stocks the Eastern Market on Saturdays through spring.
- Ramps and morels: Wild ramps appear at Eastern Market through April; Michigan morels peak May through early June. Foragers supply Mabel Gray and Selden Standard direct in season; brief, sought-after.

- Sweet corn: Michigan sweet corn peaks late July through early September; Eastern Market stalls stack ears for the Detroit summer table. Coney island chili gets fresh corn salads alongside through August.
- Boston cooler season: Vernors ginger ale over vanilla ice cream is the Detroit summer drink, served on Sanders fountains and at the Coney island counters from June through August. The canonical hot-day move.
- Michigan tomatoes and peaches: Heirloom tomatoes hit Eastern Market mid-July through September; Michigan peaches arrive late July through early September. Folk Detroit and Selden Standard run them as the season holds.
Autumn
- Michigan apples (Honeycrisp): Michigan Honeycrisp apples peak late September; Jonagold and Empire follow through October at Eastern Market and at U-pick orchards within an hour of Detroit. Sister Pie's apple pies anchor the fall menu.
