Chattanooga weekend: Michelin nods and MoonPies ★ 4.6

First-time visitor, two days2 days

A weekend that runs Chattanooga's full range: James Beard-nominated sourdough and Michelin-listed dinners on one day, MoonPies, brisket tacos and a rooftop whiskey on the other.

  1. Day 1: Saturday: Southside bakeries, butcher lunch, West Village dinner

    Morning
Niedlov's Bakery & Cafe on E Main Street from 08:00. Coffee, a laminated pastry, and a sourdough loaf for the trip home; Saturday runs the brunch menu all day.
    Afternoon
Lunch at Main Street Meats at 12:00 when doors open: the in-house-ground cheeseburger. Then walk Market Street to Chattanooga Whiskey for an afternoon tasting at the Experimental Distillery.
    Evening
Dinner at Easy Bistro & Bar from 18:00. Hearth-roasted oysters and the whole fish in the old Coca-Cola bottling hall; book Resy ahead.
  2. Day 2: Sunday: North Shore morning, riverfront MoonPies, St. Elmo brisket

    Morning
Milk & Honey on North Market Street for breakfast and an espresso; the kitchen opens at 06:00, so beat the queue at 09:00.
    Afternoon
Cross to the riverfront and the MoonPie General Store on the Southern Belle pier for a box of banana MoonPies. Then drive to St. Elmo for a late lunch at Little Coyote, brisket tacos from 11:30 on Sundays.
    Evening
End on the Edwin Hotel roof at Whiskey Thief from 17:00. Sunday hours run to 21:00, time enough for a High Malt flight over the bridge lights.

Family day on the Chattanooga riverfront ★ 4.3

Family with kids, one day1 day

Biscuits before the Aquarium, oysters and rotisserie chicken on a river deck, ice cream on the North Shore and pizza to finish: a kid-proof Chattanooga Saturday.

  1. Day 1: Saturday: biscuits, river deck lunch, scoops and pizza

    Morning
Maple Street Biscuit Company at 407 Broad Street from 08:00, fried chicken biscuits two blocks from the Tennessee Aquarium's opening rush.
