Two Michelin stars, a dozen tasting rooms, zero street addresses.
Carmel-by-the-Sea packs two Michelin stars, a dozen-plus wine tasting rooms and more than a century of baking into one square mile without a single street number. Addresses here are corner descriptions, so dinner directions read like treasure maps: Aubergine sits at Monte Verde and 7th, Chez Noir on 5th between San Carlos and Dolores. Carmel Bakery has held its Ocean Avenue storefront since 1899, the Tuck Box has poured tea in a 1927 Hugh Comstock cottage since the 1940s, and Clint Eastwood's Hog's Breath Inn came back in 2025 after a careful restoration. Thursdays bring the farmers market to Mission and 6th; most evenings end early, with wine rooms pouring Monterey County Pinot Noir until seven or eight.
