Day-by-day plans

Palma weekend: the Mallorcan classics ★ 4.7

First-time visitor, two days2 days

Two days built on what Mallorca actually eats: ensaïmada and hot chocolate, a market lunch, a celler dinner, then a starred kitchen working the same island produce. Run it Friday and Saturday, when everything opens.

  1. Day 1: Friday: bakery breakfast, market lunch, celler dinner

    Morning
Start at Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo on Carrer de Can Sanç at 08:30 for thick hot chocolate and an ensaïmada to dunk. Walk five minutes to Forn Fondo on Carrer de la Unió and buy a second one for later.
    Afternoon
Mercat de l'Olivar from 12:00. Fish, meat and produce fill the ground floor, and the gastronomic floor above runs bars and restaurants until 16:00. Finish with a coffee at Mistral Coffee House on Plaça de Weyler.
    Evening
Dinner at Celler Sa Premsa at 20:00 for arròs brut and gató d'ametlla. Nightcap at Brassclub on Passeig de Mallorca, under the three thousand bottles.
  2. Day 2: Saturday: llonguet, Santa Catalina, a starred dinner

    Morning
Coffee and a llonguet at La Molienda Bisbe on Carrer del Bisbe Campins from 09:00, on the terrace under the flame tree.
    Afternoon
Cross to Santa Catalina for the market hall on Plaça Navegació, then lunch at Sumaq on Carrer de Cotoner for Peruvian cooking built on Mallorcan fish.
    Evening
Dinner at Marc Fosh on Carrer de la Missió at 19:30, the one-star Mediterranean kitchen in a converted 17th-century convent.

Palma on a budget: two days under €30 a day ★ 4.4

On a budget, two days2 days

Palma eats cheaply if you follow local hours. Pintxos by the stick, a variat at a 1940 bodega, a working neighbourhood market and a bakery breakfast for the price of a coffee. Run it Friday and Saturday: the bodega serves dinner Thursday to Saturday only, and Mercat de Pere Garau closes on Friday and Sunday.

  1. Day 1: Friday: bakery breakfast, pintxos lunch, bodega dinner

    Morning
Breakfast at Forn Fondo on Carrer de la Unió for an ensaïmada and coffee, which comes in under €5.
    Afternoon
Bar Espanya on Carrer de Can Escursac opens at 13:00. Pintxos are priced by the stick, so a full counter lunch with a beer lands well under €15.
    Evening
Bodega La Rambla on Via Roma from 19:00 for a variat and a vermouth. Evening service runs Thursday to Saturday only, which is what pins this day to a Friday.
  2. Day 2: Saturday: a roaster's breakfast, a working market, a celler dinner

    Morning
Coffee and a homemade cake at La Molienda Arxiduc on Carrer de l'Arxiduc Lluís Salvador from 09:00. Weekend hours are short, 09:00 to 14:00, so start here rather than after the market.
    Afternoon
Walk east out of the centre to Mercat de Pere Garau, Palma's working neighbourhood market, where the counters cook the morning's fish for market prices. Saturday is its biggest day and the outdoor stalls run to 16:00.
    Evening
Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo Sindicat for almond ice cream at 19:00, then Celler Sa Premsa at 20:00 for sopes mallorquines and a plate of the house Mallorcan cooking.

Palma plant-based: a weekend without compromise ★ 4.3

Vegan and vegetarian, two days2 days

Mallorcan cooking is more plant-friendly than its sausage reputation suggests. Tumbet and coca de trampó are vegan by default, and Palma now has two proper plant-based kitchens. Run it Friday and Saturday: both days end at a kitchen that closes on Sunday.

  1. Day 1: Friday: vegetarian breakfast, coca, vegan dinner

    Morning
Mama Carmen's on Carrer de Cervantes in Santa Catalina from 09:00 for a fruit-loaded muesli bowl and a vegan croissant while they last.
    Afternoon
Fornet de la Soca on Plaça de Weyler for coca by the slice, eaten standing. Stock is baked in small runs, so go before the afternoon.
    Evening
Dinner at Ca n'Ela Vegan Restaurant on Carrer de la Mar at 19:00, a fully plant-based kitchen in La Lonja that seats very few.
  2. Day 2: Saturday: specialty coffee, a mansion lunch, marked pintxos

    Morning
Filter coffee at Bacan on Carrer del Baró de Santa Maria del Sepulcre. Ask about the courtyard behind the room.
    Afternoon
Lunch at Mouna, off Plaça Drassanes, where organic Mallorcan produce carries the whole carte and the vegan dishes are marked.
    Evening
Bar Espanya from 18:30 for the vegetarian and vegan pintxos, which sit on the same counter and are labelled.
