Stary Kleparz, just north of Kraków's Old Town walls, has run as a food market since the mid-14th century. 200+ stalls: Polish produce, smoked meats.

Go for: Polish produce, Cured meats, Cheese, Pickles

Tip: Closed Sunday. Best by 10:00 on Saturday before the fresh stalls sell out.

Hala Targowa ★ 4.4

Hala Targowa east of Kraków's Old Town runs as a daily food market and a Sunday flea. Open mon-sat 06:00-15:00, sun flea market 07:00-14:00.

Go for: Sunday flea market, Polish produce, Late-night kielbasa

Tip: Sunday is the flea market day. The blue Nysa van at Grzegórzecka 5 outside has the city's best night sausage; closed Sundays.

Plac Nowy ★ 4.4

Plac Nowy in Kraków's Kazimierz is the round former kosher poultry market that now runs zapiekanka stalls around its core rotunda. Booking recommended.

Go for: Zapiekanka, Antiques on Sunday, Late-night Kazimierz food

Tip: The zapiekanka rotunda runs until 03:00 weekends. Sunday morning is the antiques flea slot.

Targ Pietruszkowy ★ 4.4

Targ Pietruszkowy (Parsley Market) is Kraków's Saturday organic-and-craft market in Podgórze: Małopolska farmers, artisan cheeses, sourdough, jams.

Go for: Małopolska organic produce, Sourdough, Local cheese

Tip: Saturday and Wednesday morning. Cash heavy; arrive by 09:00 for the best bread and dairy.

Rynek Główny Christmas Market ★ 4.3

The Christmas market on Kraków's Rynek Główny runs from late November to 26 December: 80 stalls of mulled wine, grilled oscypek, pierogi and Polish craft.

Go for: Mulled wine (grzaniec), Pierogi, Oscypek with cranberry

Tip: Late November to 26 December only. Mulled wine in a souvenir mug is the order; grilled oscypek the dish.

Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) ★ 4.1

The Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) at the centre of Kraków's Rynek Główny has run as a covered craft market since the 14th century: amber, wooden toys, leather.

Go for: Amber jewelry, Polish craft, Wooden gifts

Tip: Not a food market; more a craft and amber bazaar. The Noworolski cafe at the corner is the food stop.
