Pho originated in northern Vietnam in the early 20th century, and refugees carried it abroad after the Vietnam War. Australia resettled Vietnam-born refugees under a plan running from 1975 to 1985, and in Sydney they are concentrated in Cabramatta and nearby western suburbs.
