Brooklyn eats like the borough of neighborhoods it is. Sunset Park's 8th Avenue is Brooklyn's Chinatown, Cantonese at first and now largely Fuzhounese, while 5th Avenue a few blocks west runs on Mexican, much of it from Puebla. Brighton Beach, nicknamed Little Odessa, filled with Soviet emigres from the 1970s and now shops and eats Russian, Ukrainian and Uzbek. The West Indian community of Crown Heights, Flatbush and East Flatbush brings roti, doubles and jerk, and the Labor Day Carnival on Eastern Parkway. Greenpoint is Little Poland, Bay Ridge's commercial streets carry Arab bakeries and halal grocers, Atlantic Avenue keeps the Middle Eastern shops of its Lebanese and Syrian settlers, and Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights and Carroll Gardens hold on to Italian bakeries, pizzerias and social clubs. In 1890 Bushwick's Brewer's Row ran 14 breweries in 14 blocks; the taprooms now cluster in Williamsburg, Bushwick and Gowanus. The current Michelin Guide lists 76 Brooklyn restaurants, six of them with stars, and Smorgasburg's weekend food markets run from April to October, Saturdays on the Williamsburg waterfront and Sundays in Prospect Park.
