The gentrifying multi-ethnic quarter south of the Mercado de la Ribera, now home to Bilbao's natural-wine bars, Senegalese kitchens and the city's third-wave coffee crowd.
Bilbao La Vieja, south of the Mercado de la Ribera, is the city's gentrifying multi-ethnic quarter and its most interesting food frontier. Natural-wine bars and third-wave coffee have moved in beside Senegalese kitchens, giving the neighbourhood a mix the rest of Bilbao does not have. It rewards an unplanned wander more than a booking.
Badulake on Hernani in Bilbao la Vieja has kept its party going for more than 20 years, with the drag troupe Las Fellini performing on Thursdays and Fridays.
Tip: It opens at 21:30 on Thursdays with Las Fellini's show; on Fridays they go on from 22:00 before the DJs keep the room going late.
