Day-by-day eating plans for Oklahoma City: weekend, family, vegan, on-a-budget.
Day-by-day eating plans for Oklahoma City. weekend classics, family routes, vegan plans, on-a-budget editions.
This two-day itinerary covers the core of Oklahoma City's food identity: the historic Stockyards City neighborhood with its century-old steakhouse, the Midtown dining corridor anchored by two of OKC's most celebrated New American kitchens, the Asian District where a Vietnamese community dating to 1975 produces some of the most authentic pho outside the coasts, and Bricktown's canal-side restaurants and craft brewery. You will eat the Oklahoma onion burger, chicken-fried steak, and pho, giving you a genuine cross-section of the city's food culture in 48 hours.
Oklahoma City's craft beer scene grew rapidly after the state relaxed its alcohol laws, allowing full-strength beer sales in grocery stores starting in 2018 and enabling breweries to expand taprooms and on-site food service. This single-day trail visits three of OKC's most respected independent breweries spread across the Midtown and Capitol Hill corridors, pairing each stop with food from neighboring kitchens or the breweries' own menus. The itinerary covers lager-forward approachable brewing at one stop, experimental mixed-fermentation at another, and hop-forward West Coast styles at the third, finishing with dinner at one of OKC's New American restaurants that carries an extensive local craft tap list.
This single-day itinerary moves through three of Oklahoma City's most walkable and visually distinct neighborhoods: Midtown with its restored bungalows and New American brunch restaurants, the Paseo Arts District with its Spanish-colonial architecture and bohemian cafe culture, and the Plaza District along NW 16th Street, which has developed into OKC's most creative independent retail and dining strip. The route requires a car or rideshare between neighborhoods but each area rewards 60 to 90 minutes of exploring on foot. Brunch runs from mid-morning through early afternoon, leaving the afternoon for gallery browsing and a late lunch or early dinner at the Plaza District.
