Hyde Park, Chicago

University of Chicago neighbourhood seven miles south of the Loop, home to Valois Cafeteria (Obama's old order: scrambled eggs, sausage, toast) and Medici.

Hyde Park is the University of Chicago's neighbourhood, seven miles south of the Loop. Valois Cafeteria is its most famous counter, where Obama's old order of scrambled eggs, sausage and toast is still part of local lore, and Medici covers the student-institution end. The eating here is collegiate in the best way: unfussy, durable, opinionated.

The full Hyde Park food guide is still being researched. In the meantime, see the Chicago food guide for the places we cover, or the neighbourhood index.
