Sneaky Dee's opened at Bloor and Bathurst in 1987 before moving to College and Bathurst in 1990. The King's Crown Nachos emerged through the 1990s as the city's signature late-night post-bar order, the platter sized for a table of four and the staple weekend ritual for the College Street crowd. Sneaky Dee's stays open until 04:30 on weekends to serve the nacho-and-beer post-bar demand.

Ingredients

  • 1 large bag tortilla chips, salted
  • 400g refried beans
  • 300g shredded cheddar cheese
  • 300g shredded Monterey Jack
  • 200ml salsa, medium heat
  • 150ml sour cream
  • 2 avocados, smashed with lime juice and salt
  • 1 jalapeno, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, finely diced
  • Cilantro, chopped
  • Optional: 200g cooked ground beef or shredded chicken

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200C. Spread a layer of tortilla chips on a heat-proof platter.
  2. Spoon refried beans over the chips, then half the cheese. If using meat, scatter it across the cheese.
  3. Add another layer of chips, then the rest of the cheese.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  5. Top with salsa, dollops of sour cream and guacamole, jalapeno slices, diced tomato, red onion and cilantro.
  6. Serve immediately at the table with extra hot sauce on the side.
