Fort Collins beer weekend: the 1989 originals and the new cellar ★ 4.6

Beer travellers, two days2 days

Two days built around the breweries that made the city: the 1989 class on day one, the sour cellars and whiskey wall on day two, with proper meals in between.

  1. Day 1: Saturday: cinnamon roll, first brewpub, Lincoln Avenue giants

    Morning
Silver Grill Cafe on Walnut Street at 08:00. Order the giant cinnamon roll grilled, plus eggs; it has fuelled this walk since 1933.
    Afternoon
Lunch and a house ale at CooperSmith's Pub and Brewing, the city's first brewpub, then walk Lincoln Avenue to Odell Brewing for 90 Shilling on the patio and a flight of Colorado wine next door at The OBC Wine Project.
    Evening
Dinner at RARE Italian, dry-aged steak and handmade pasta, then find the stairs under Old Town Square for a nightcap at Social from 21:00.
  2. Day 2: Sunday: pie-counter coffee, the mothership, alley beers, whiskey

    Morning
Coffee and a slice of pie from the bakery counter at Ginger and Baker in the restored Feed and Grain building on Linden Street, open from 07:00 on Sundays.
    Afternoon
Tour New Belgium Brewing on Linden Street, Fat Tire and the foeder hall, then wander back through Old Firehouse Alley for a Colorado-grown pint at Salt Road Brewing and a balanced ale at Equinox Brewing.
    Evening
Elk steak and a Colorado pour at The Still Whiskey Steaks, then finish among the 2,800 bottles at The Whisk(e)y until late.
